Kids Sea Camp Curaçao
Curacao Kids Sea Camp is proud to be hosting its 5th consecutive year at Curacaos Royal Resorts, Lions Dive & Beach Resort, Ocean Encounters, and the Curacao Sea Aquarium. To start off the first two weeks with a bang is ROGEST art done by world renowned artist, Ron Stevens. Ron will be in Curacao for June 25th - July 9th, clowning around with the kids.
Ron is a dot specialist. When asked why dots? He will say, I have always admired the Australian Aboriginal style of dot painting. The palette from which I work and create has been wonderfully influenced by this style. It allows free expression of my over active imagination. This series of paintings has all been done on stretched canvas with acrylic paints, and they are not planned in advance but rather take form as the work unfolds. I use seawater (salt) and sand from the dive sites for texture, making the paintings truly a part of the dive.
One of Rons main goals in working with our kids during the Kids Sea Camp program is to teach what he loves and respects, which is painting and the environment. With his unique and sometimes crazy personality, it is hard for the kids not to just laugh, learn, and enjoy.
Two past Kids Sea Camp participates Shawna and Tiffany McIntosh (ages 8 and 9) enjoyed working with Ron so much they convinced their parents to change the dates of their vacation. They just had to be in Curacao when Ron was there.
During the week, the kids are each given their own canvas board to create their unique creation under the guidance of Ron. He teaching them different techniques of painting, while also teaching them to respect and appreciate the environment.
Last year, we completed over 40 unique works of art and Ron painted one large canvas with the help of little hands. Each child was able to put their hand print and Ron turned them into little fish, the painting is on display at the Curacao Sea Aquarium, known as Hands Loving the Ocean.
Kids Sea Camp along with its sponsors Sport Diver, SCUBAPRO, and PADI Diving Society are pleased to have such a well-known artist share his talent and love with our families. With Ron being a kid himself it was not hard to convince him to come to Kids Sea Camp in Grand Cayman for a week too. Ron is a great addition to our Kids Sea Camp program and helps to ensure that we give the kids, a week they will remember forever with wonderful memories of that Pirate painter, Rogest.
